Ruckus SmartZone controllers provide enterprise-grade WiFi management for high-density environments, and integrating Spotipo's captive portal adds powerful guest WiFi capabilities including email capture, social login, and paid access options. This integration uses Ruckus's Hotspot (WISPr) authentication method with RADIUS to manage guest access while maintaining network performance.
This guide walks you through configuring your Ruckus SmartZone controller to work with Spotipo's cloud authentication system. The setup involves creating hotspot portals, configuring RADIUS servers, and setting up walled garden access for seamless guest authentication.
What you'll accomplish:
Create a Ruckus SmartZone site in Spotipo and generate RADIUS credentials
Configure Hotspot (WISPr) authentication on your SmartZone WLAN
Set up authentication and accounting servers with RADIUS
Configure walled garden domains for portal access
What you'll need:
Ruckus SmartZone controller with admin access
CLI access to disable MAC/IP encryption
Active Spotipo account (start free trial)

Add a Site
Each location is represented by a Site. A site can have multiple routers (of the same type)
A new site can be created either while creating a new login or by clicking on the switch sites button and adding a new location.
Select Ruckus Smartzone under WiFi hardware, provide a name for the location and click on Save.
Add Smart Zone Entry to Spotipo
Go to Smartzone tab on the site you just created and click on New.
Provide a name and optional secret and click on Save.
Please note down the Radius Secret, NASID and Location Id generated
Disable MAC/IP encryption
Please login to controller CLI and execute below command
no encrypt-mac-ip
Add a new WLAN.
Log into the SmartZone controller and go to the WLAN tab. Use the Create button.
In the WLAN configuration, provide the required SSID and Select Hotspot(WISPr) as the authentication method.
Add Hotspot Portal
Under the Hotspot Portal tab, use the Create Button to add a new Hotspot Portal
Provide a name for your portal
Set the Redirected Mac format to aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff
configure the Location ID generated in Spotipo.
Add https://app.spotipo.com/smartzone/guest/ as URL for unauthenticated user ( replace app.spotipo.com with your server FQDN if you are using a Whitelabel domain)*
In Startpage select, redirect to the following URL
And use https://app.spotipo.com/smartzone/postauth/ as the URL_( replace app.spotipo.com with your server FQDN if you are using a Whitelabel domain)_
Add the below domains to the walled garden
app.spotipo.com
<FQDN of your smartzone controller or it's IP>
<FQDN of your whitelabel domain if you have>
Create Authentication and Accounting Servers
Check the user controller as proxy option and add below authentication server and accounting server IP addresses and generated secret:
35.205.248.64
34.77.150.10
Configure Radius Options
Now go to Radius options tab.
Select the NAS ID as user-defined.
Provide the value generated in Spotipo.
Configure Called STA ID to AP MAC.
Save And Test
Now, you can save and test the configuration by connecting a device to the Guest WiFI network created.
Your Ruckus SmartZone Captive Portal Is Now Live
Once your configuration is complete and guests can connect to your WiFi network, the Spotipo portal will appear automatically—and you can start capturing WiFi guest data, running marketing campaigns, or offering paid WiFi access through your Ruckus SmartZone network.
What to do next:
Customize your splash page design in Spotipo dashboard to match your branding
Set up email marketing integrations to automatically sync guest contacts
Configure bandwidth tiers to offer premium WiFi access packages
Common Ruckus SmartZone setup issues:
Portal not appearing: Verify all walled garden domains are added (app.spotipo.com and your controller FQDN/IP)
Authentication failures: Ensure RADIUS secret matches exactly between Spotipo and SmartZone (case-sensitive)
MAC address format errors: Confirm "Redirected Mac format" is set to aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff
Encryption issues: Make sure you've disabled MAC/IP encryption via CLI command
