Please note that this option is available only for Operator login plans.

Devices without browsers, smart TVs, Roku, Chromecast, gaming consoles, and IoT devices cannot display captive portals and therefore can't authenticate normally. MAC address whitelisting bypasses the captive portal for specific devices, allowing them to connect directly without authentication.

This guide shows you how to find a device's MAC address and add it to Spotipo's whitelist with optional expiry dates, speed limits, and data caps.

What you'll accomplish:

  • Find the MAC address of browser-less devices

  • Enable MAC whitelisting in Spotipo

  • Add devices to the whitelist with custom parameters

  • Allow smart TVs, streaming devices, and IoT equipment to bypass the captive portal

What you'll need:

  • Spotipo Operator plan (MAC whitelisting available on Operator plans only)

  • MAC address of the device to whitelist

  • Admin access to the Spotipo dashboard

Get the MAC address of your Device

First step is to identify the MAC address of your device.

  • Typically MAC address will be listed on your device's info label.

  • You could also get it after connecting device to WiFi network and logging into your AP interface

Enable MAC whitelisting

Login to your site in Spotipo and navigate to Settings.

MAC Whitelisting can be done by adding your device to the list of Whitelisted devices.

Add your device to MAC Whitelist

Navigate to Whitelisted devices, and click on Add New. Add the MAC address. Optionally, you can specify details like Expiry date, Speed and data limits.

Device Now Whitelisted

After adding the MAC address to your whitelist, the device can connect to your WiFi without seeing the captive portal. It will have immediate internet access based on any speed or data limits you configured.

What to do next:

  • Test the device connection to verify bypass works correctly

  • Document whitelisted devices for future reference

  • Set expiry dates for temporary device access (guest devices, events)

Finding MAC addresses:

  • Check device label or settings menu under Network/About

  • Connect device to WiFi first, then check connected devices in your router interface

  • Format: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX (12 characters with colons)
