Mist AI-driven WiFi provides cloud-managed access points with advanced analytics and automation. Integrating Spotipo's external portal with Mist enables email capture, social login, and guest WiFi management, though Mist's platform limitations mean only time-based access controls are supported—data caps and speed limits cannot be enforced.

This guide walks you through creating a Mist site in Spotipo, configuring WLAN settings to forward to external portal, and exchanging API credentials between platforms.

What you'll accomplish:

  • Create a Mist site in Spotipo and get portal URL

  • Configure WLAN to forward to Spotipo's external portal

  • Exchange API secret between Mist and Spotipo

  • Enable guest authentication with time-based access controls

What you'll need:

  • Mist account with access points deployed

  • Admin access to Mist dashboard

  • Active Spotipo account (start free trial)

Important limitation: Mist does not support data or speed limits on guest portals. Only time-based session limits are available. Accounting data is not provided by Mist, so usage statistics won't display in Spotipo.

Mist networks do not support setting Data or Speed limits on Guest portals. Only time limits are supported. Also since there is no accounting data support from Mist, spotipo can not display these.

Add a Mist Site

If not already done, please create a Site with Mist as the WiFi router. Please see

this article is on how to create a site.

Get the Portal URL from Spotipo

Navigate to Settings -> Mist on your Mist site and copy the URL from Spotipo.

Update Mist WLAN with Spotipo Portal

Login to your Mist dashboard and navigate to Site -> WLANs. Here select the WLAN you like enable hotspot or add a new one.

Under the Guest Portal section

  • Choose Forward to the external portal

  • Add app.spotipo.com under allowed hostnames

  • Remember to un-select "Bypass guest/external portal in case of exception"

Save the configuration and Mist will generate an API secret automatically.

Now open the configuration again by clicking on the WLAN and copy the API secret.

Go back to the Spotipo dashboard and update this API secret

Voila!! Now wait for few minutes and connect to the network you just created, it should send you to the landing page.

Mist Hotspot Now Active

After configuring the WLAN to forward to external portal and exchanging API secrets, wait a few minutes for settings to propagate. Guests connecting to your WLAN will be redirected to Spotipo's captive portal for authentication.

What to do next:

  • Test the captive portal by connecting a device to your WLAN

  • Customize your splash page design in Spotipo dashboard

  • Configure time-based packages (data/speed limits not supported)

Configuration reminder: Uncheck "Bypass guest/external portal in case of exception" to ensure all guests see the captive portal even during API connectivity issues.
