When offering paid WiFi packages, displaying tax items like VAT, GST, or sales tax on invoices ensures compliance with local taxation regulations and provides transparency to your guests. Spotipo allows you to add multiple tax line items to invoices while keeping your package pricing straightforward—the total package price includes all taxes, but invoices break down the components clearly.

This guide walks you through configuring tax items for your WiFi packages and customizing the invoice template to display tax breakdowns. The setup takes approximately 10 minutes and supports multiple tax types on a single invoice.

What you'll accomplish:

  • Add tax fields (VAT, GST, sales tax) to your WiFi packages

  • Customize invoice templates to display tax line items separately

  • Configure tax breakdowns while maintaining simple package pricing

  • Ensure invoices comply with local tax reporting requirements

What you'll need:

  • Active Spotipo account with paid WiFi packages configured

  • Knowledge of applicable tax rates for your location

  • Access to Spotipo's branding and email template settings

Important pricing note: Tax fields added to packages are for invoice display purposes only, they don't affect the price charged to guests. If you want to charge $16 for access plus $5 VAT and $4 GST, set your package price to $25 (the total amount guests will pay).

Configure Tax items for packages

While creating a package, use the Add Fields to Invoice option to add relevant tax fields. So that you know, these fields do not affect the price charged to Guests. The package Price is what's charged to Guests.

For example, if you want to charge 16$ for access and add VAT of 5$, and GST 4$ on top, set the package price to 25$

Update the Invoice Template to include additional tax lines.

Navigate to Control Panel -> Branding -> Emails -> Invoice Email.

Click on the first invoice row, use the duplicate button, and make two duplicates ( since two lines are created on the package).

Change the value of the first item's price to ##{{price_minus_tax}}

And add additional lines with a label ##{{taxes[0]['title']}} and price ##{{taxes[0]['value']}}

Please repeat that for the number of tax lines you have on the package.

Finally save the template.

After that, Guests will be sent invoices with tax items properly set.

Your Tax-Compliant WiFi Invoices Are Ready

Once you've configured tax items on your packages and updated the invoice template, guests who purchase WiFi access will receive invoices with tax breakdowns clearly displayed. This ensures compliance with taxation regulations while maintaining transparency in your pricing.

What to do next:

  • Test the invoice by purchasing a package to verify tax lines appear correctly

  • Create different packages for locations with different tax rates if managing multiple regions

  • Add your business tax registration number to invoice templates for compliance

Invoice template variable guide:

  • ##{{price_minus_tax}} - Base price before taxes

  • ##{{taxes[0]['title']}} and ##{{taxes[0]['value']}} - First tax line

  • ##{{taxes[1]['title']}} and ##{{taxes[1]['value']}} - Second tax line

Common issues:

  • Tax lines not appearing: Verify you've duplicated the invoice row for each tax field

  • Wrong amounts: Check that package price equals base price plus all taxes

  • Template errors: Ensure variables are formatted with double curly braces
