Meraki MX security appliances support captive portal authentication on VLANs using custom RADIUS servers. Integrating Spotipo with your Meraki MX enables email capture, social login, and paid WiFi access on wired VLAN networks without requiring additional hardware or firmware changes.

This guide walks you through creating a Meraki site in Spotipo, configuring VLAN access control with custom RADIUS authentication, and setting up walled garden access for seamless guest authentication on your Meraki MX.

What you'll accomplish:

  • Create a Meraki site in Spotipo and generate RADIUS credentials

  • Configure VLAN access control with custom-hosted splash page

  • Set up RADIUS authentication and accounting servers on Meraki MX

  • Configure walled garden for Spotipo and optional payment/social login domains

What you'll need:

  • Meraki MX security appliance with active license

  • Admin access to Meraki dashboard

  • Active Spotipo account (start free trial)

  • VLAN configured for guest access

You can use Spotipo as a custom Radius server on your Meraki network. This allows you to use your existing Meraki network to deploy a hotspot without the need to make any firmware changes.

In this scenario, a VLAN on the MX will be configured with captive portal.

Add a Meraki Site

If you need to, please create a Site with Meraki as the WiFi router. Please see

This article on how to create a site.

After creating the site, navigate to Settings -> Meraki Aps. Here you can see the Radius details and the splash page URL for configuring your Meraki network.

Enable a Custom-Hosted Splash page on the Meraki Cloud.

Go to the Meraki dashboard, select your network, then navigate to Security &SD-WAN -> Configure -> Access control.

In the VLAN drop-down menu, choose the VLAN you want to configure.

Under the splash page section, choose the splash page method as "Sign-On with " and select the "my Radius server" option.

Configure Radius Server Details

Click the Add server button under RADIUS servers and

  • use the Primary Radius Server Ip from the Spotipo dashboard as the HostIP

  • Use 1812 as the port

  • Use the secret from the Spotipo dashboard as the Secret

Do the steps again for adding a secondary radius server

Configure RADIUS accounting servers

If you don't have this option in your dashboard, don't hesitate to contact Meraki support to enable it.

  • use the Primary Radius Server Ip from the Spotipo dashboard as the HostIP

  • Use 1813 as the port

  • Use the secret from the Spotipo dashboard as the Secret

Configure Walled Garden

Under advanced splash settings, you can enable Walled Garden and add the below entry.

app.spotipo.com

If you are using a white-labeled domain, add that as well.

Optionally add the domains below if you want to deploy payment gated hotspot with Stripe.

js.stripe.com
api.stripe.com
q.stripe.com

Or, if you want to use Login with Facebook

facebook.com
akamaihd.netakamai.net
edgecastcdn.net
facebook.net
akamaihd.net
fbcdn.net
atdmt.com
fbsbx.com

Configure Splash page

Go to Security &SD-WAN -> Configure -> Splash page and choose the VLAN on which you want to deploy the hotspot.

Select the Custom Splash page URL and copy-paste the Splash URL from the spotipo dashboard.

Under Splash Behavior, for the Where should users go after the splash page, select the option "The URL they were trying to fetch."

If everything is configured correctly, you can see the Spotipo landing page when connecting to the Guest WiFi network.

Meraki MX Captive Portal Active

After configuring VLAN access control, RADIUS servers, walled garden settings, and custom splash page URL, clients connecting to your configured VLAN will be redirected to Spotipo's landing page for authentication.

What to do next:

  • Test the captive portal by connecting a device to your configured VLAN

  • Customize your splash page design in Spotipo dashboard

  • Set up email marketing integrations to sync guest contacts

VLAN-specific configuration: This setup applies to wired VLAN guest access on Meraki MX appliances. For wireless guest WiFi on Meraki access points, follow the Meraki AP configuration guide instead.
