Session time controls how long guests can access your WiFi network after logging in through your captive portal. By setting session limits, you can manage network resources, encourage repeat engagement, or comply with usage policies—while providing a seamless experience where guests aren't prompted to log in again during their active session.
This guide shows you how to configure session duration for social logins, email authentication, phone verification, and click-through access. Session time applies across all login methods and determines how long guests stay authenticated before needing to log in again.
What you'll accomplish:
Configure session duration in minutes for guest WiFi access
Set session restrictions or allow unlimited re-login
Control guest authentication persistence across disconnects and reconnects
Manage network access policies through time-based limits
What you'll need:
Active Spotipo account with configured login methods
Clear policy on guest session duration for your business type
How sessions work: During an active session, guests can disconnect and reconnect to your WiFi without seeing the captive portal again. Once the session expires, they must re-authenticate to regain access.
This method is valid only for Social logins ie Login with Facebook, Email, Phone or Clickthrough
Session time is the amount of time a Guest is given internet access after login.
The landing page is not shown to the guest for the duration of a session, even if he disconnect and reconnect.
Set Up
To change the value, go to Settings -> Login Config and click on the login type you'd like to change.
Set a time in minutes here. Also make sure that a correct Login Policy is configured based on your needs.
One time asks users for login only the first time they're trying to log in, "every time" asks after each session expires (in this case, after 6000 minutes are up). "Monthly once" asks for authorization 30 days after the initial session has been authorized.
If you change session time while the portal is operational, only the sessions started after a change has been made will be affected. Old sessions won't apply a new Session time change.
Make sure to set Session time to a minimum of 10 or 20 minutes at least. Otherwise, sessions won't be applied correctly and users won't get kicked out in correct timings.
Your Guest WiFi Session Time Is Now Configured
Once you've set session time in the Fair Usage Limit section and saved your changes, all guests using the configured login method will have their access limited to the specified duration. After the session expires, they can re-login to continue using your WiFi if "Restrict Sessions" is set to "No Limit."
What to do next:
Test the session timeout by logging in and waiting for the session to expire
Configure different session times for different login methods if needed
Set up session restrictions to limit total daily or monthly re-logins if required
Common session issues:
Guests complaining about frequent logins: Increase session time to match typical visit duration
Session not expiring: Verify session time value is saved in Fair Usage Limit section
Different needs per login type: Configure each login method separately
